College Credit

Yes, it is true that you can get college credit for the classes you take in Recruit Training, Nuclear Field "A" School and in Nuclear Power School. The American Council on Education (ACE) evaluates the curriculum and recommends credit for most of the classes taken. Whether a specific school will accept the credit will depend on that school. In order to gain credit for military schools, you will need to contact the Education Services Officer (ESO) at your command after completion of the school. The ESO is normally located in the same building as the Personnel Support Detachment (PSD). You will need to fill out a form DD-295 from the ESO with the name and address of your school. The ESO will check your service record and list the schools which you have successfully completed. When the college or university receives the DD-295, they will assess your schools according to their standards and assign credit for your military schooling. You only receive credit for those schools which you complete, but you can get that credit at any time after graduation from the military school. For example, I know I was told that if I were to be disenrolled from the program at any time after "A" school, I would not receive those credits, but this is not true. If I had failed out during Power School, I still would have gotten the "A" school credits, though not the Power School credits. I was enrolled in the University of Phoenix, and they assigned to me the following credits based upon Recruit Training (boot camp),Electrician's Mate "A" School, and Nuclear Power School:
